About 20 years ago I took Kyffin Williams out for lunch, and also invited my good friend Gaenor who I knew admired his work. During the conversation we got chatting about vernacular Welsh architecture and Kyffin wanted to illustrate a couple of Welsh house types.
We had no paper handy but Gaenor had a couple of receipts in her bag. It was a lovely day. A few weeks later I was given a wrapped present by Gaenor…she’d kept the two small receipt sketches and framed them, giving us one each.
A lovely present that means more than much more impressive Welsh art that we’ve been lucky to own since – it sits right above my office desk.
